Biography

Before joining SMS in May 2022, Marcy Vigoda had been with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs since 2014 where she led the development of OCHA's partnership agenda, building and sustaining strong relationships with Member States, regional organizations and others to ensure all appropriate resources are available to meet people’s needs in emergencies. She was responsible for fundraising for OCHA’s own budget, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and country-based pooled funds. She drove system-wide resource mobilization, leading planning of high-level advocacy and fundraising events for humanitarian needs in Syria, Yemen, Lake Chad Basin countries, and to end gender-based violence. She co-chaired the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Results Group on Humanitarian Financing and co-convened the Grand Bargain workstream on quality funding. In 2021 she served as Head of Office of OCHA Ethiopia and most recently has been Senior Humanitarian Adviser in the Operations and Advocacy Division.

Ms. Vigoda held senior positions with CARE International across the globe, including Deputy Secretary-General in Geneva from 2010 through 2013. She has worked in international development since 1989 in many countries (Bangladesh, Bolivia, Nepal, Ethiopia and Ghana, also covering Togo and Benin) in a range of senior managerial, programmatic and advisory positions, including as CARE Country Director, Program Director and Gender Adviser. She has extensive management and leadership experience, and has led and supported many multi-stakeholder partnerships including the Connecting Business initiative, a private-sector driven partnership managed by OCHA and UNDP.

Ms. Vigoda graduated from the University of Toronto, Canada, with a Master’s Degree in Political Science. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Canada’s McGill University. She is fluent in English and intermediate in French and Spanish. She is married with three children.
