Strengthening the Capacity of SUN Countries through Learning Routes
The SUN Movement Secretariat has partnered with the PROCASUR Corporation to develop a pilot programme to improve sharing and learning initiatives between national SUN multi-stakeholder platforms for scaling up nutrition.
The programme is supported with SUN Movement MPTF funding and combines both face-to-face and web-based learning activities within a capacity building environment known as a “Learning Route”. The pilot aims to enable lesson learning, advanced knowledge management and the efficient dissemination of information.
In preparation for the pilot programme, the SUN Movement Secretariat invited SUN Government Focal Points to work within their multi-stakeholder platforms to respond to an online survey. This survey allowed the SUN Movement Secretariat to map countries’ learning needs as well as the existence of best practice. 28 countries took part in a survey and in most cases, the SUN Government Focal Points were the primary respondents.
The first Learning Route will be held from 26 May to 1 June 2014 when the Government of Senegal will host Benin, Burundi, Niger, Ghana, Guinea and Sierra Leone. For this Learning Route, government representation ranges from the offices of the president, vice president, national planning authorities as well as ministries of health and agriculture. Almost every participating country has included civil society in their delegations.
The second Learning Route will be held from 18 to 24 August 2014, with the Government of Peru hosting Guatemala, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and Madagascar delegations.
