On 15 August 2016, a study tour on strategic behaviour change communication and young child feeding began in Vietnam for 24 Ministry of Health officials from Lao PDR. The event was hosted by Alive & Thrive in partnership with Viet Nam’s National Institute of Nutrition. In addition to the Laos PDR delegations, participants in the week long learning exchange included representatives from the World Bank, UNICEF, and the SUN Movement Secretariat.

The team visited infant and young child feeding franchises and support groups, discussed how Alive & Thrive’s mass media campaign was developed in Viet Nam, met with local partners in two provinces, and learned about how early essential newborn care has improved early initiation of breastfeeding at the Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children.

Following the visits, the Lao delegation returned home excited to apply what they learned to improve nutrition practices in their country.
