Biography

Kola Matthew Anigo is a Professor and lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Abuja with a special interest in food and nutrition. He has a Ph.D. with a research focus on infant feeding and complementary feeding practices. As a staff of Ahmadu Bello University, he represented the university in the National Committee on Food & Nutrition (NCFN) for many years and his active participation and contribution led to the introduction of Nutrition programmes to help address the low-skill manpower in the Northern part of Nigeria with the highest scourge of malnutrition in the country. 

His over 25 years of community work enabled him to participate in many nutrition programmes through support received from many development partners. He actively contributes to strengthening multi-sectoral partnerships on nutrition in Nigeria. As the Chair of the Technical Advisory Group to the National Council on Nutrition (NCN) under the Office of the Vice President during the year 2021 – 2023 provided technical assistance and guardians that facilitated inter- and intra-agency coordination, supervision, and monitoring, and implementation of the National Multisectoral plan of action on Nutrition (NMPFAN). 

He has facilitated the domestication of National Policy on Food and Nutrition and Development of the costed multisectoral plan of action in twenty (20) states at the sub-national level. Anigo is the current National Coordinator of the Academic and Research Network Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (ARN-SUNN) which was established to contribute to the scaling up of nutrition in Nigeria through training, and research for evidence generation to guide nutrition-related policies, programmes, and interventions. 

A committed educator and researcher who is actively involved in community work, he has published extensively in national and international journals, contributing to shaping nutrition policies and building capacity to ensure the achievement of nutrition security malnutrition in Nigeria.
