On 8 December 2015, Zambia’s Vice President, Inonge Wina, launched the 2015 Global Nutrition Report in the capital of Lusaka. The Vice President was joined by the Minister of Agriculture, Given Lubinda, his Deputy Minister and two permanent secretaries. The event, organised by he Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Civil for Society for Scaling up Nutrition (CSO-SUN) Alliance, represented an opportunity to recognise the progress made in Zambia to improve their nutrition status and what it will take to reduce stunting from 40% (2013/2014 Zambia demographic and health survey) to 23% by 2023.

William Chilufya, Country Coordinator for the SUN Civil Society Alliance CSO-SUN and member of the SUN Movement Executive Committee, urged the government and all stakeholders to elevate nutrition across the country’s 7th National Development Plan which begin development soon. He appealed to the Government to ensure that Zambia makes smarter commitments at the nutrition for growth summit to be held in Brazil in 2016, and above all, to implement them.

‘It is in my portfolio to connect what all sectors of the government can do to improve food and nutrition security of the Zambian people. And also ensure a multi-sectoral approach to the issue nutrition is adequately implemented.’ – Ms. Inonge Wina, Vice President, Zambia.
