The 40th Session of the Committee on World Food Security took place from 7 to 11 October 2013 in Rome.  The Session was attended by delegates from 121 Members of the Committee; 14 non-Member States of the Committee and by representatives from United Nations Agencies and Bodies, 95 Civil society organizations, 47 Private sector associations and private philanthropic foundations as well as representatives from agricultural research organizations and international and regional financial institutions.

The 40th Session of the CFS included two roundtable policy discussions covering the themes of Biofuels and Food Security and Investing in Smallholder Agriculture for Food Security and Agriculture.  The Committee elected Ambassador Gerda Verburg, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Netherlands, as the Chair of CFS.
