Alliance 8.7 puts child-focused partnerships in the spotlight

On 7 March 2017, on the margins of the 34th session of the Human Rights Council, Alliance 8.7, with the support of End Violence Against Children, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement, held an event to draw attention to the “Implementation of the 2030 Agenda through a rights-based approach: Child-Focused Partnerships”. The event, held at the United Nations in Geneva, brought attention to Alliance 8.7 – A global strategic partnership committed to achieving Target 8.7 through the alignment of global, regional and national efforts

Approximately one billion children worldwide have experienced physical, sexual or psychological violence in the past year. But violence against children is not an inevitable part of life. It is preventable.

The event, held at the United Nations in Geneva, brought attention to Alliance 8.7  – A global strategic partnership committed to achieving Target 8.7 through the alignment of global, regional and national efforts, focusing on:

  • Accelerating timelines
  • Conducting research and sharing knowledge
  • Driving innovation
  • Increasing and leveraging resources

Alliance 8.7 recognizes that no single actor can solve these challenges alone and that eradication can be accelerated through efforts that leverage expertise across a wide range of stakeholders. Alliance 8.7 is also committed to achieving related SDG Targets such as 4.1, 4.2, 5.2, 5.3, 10.7, 16.2 and 16.10 and will work with a broad range of partnerships to ensure coordination.
