On 6 August 2014, the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, inaugurated the week long programme which marks the fourth year for Bangladesh to observe World Breastfeeding Week. The Health Minister Mohammed Nasim said the country had taken on new programmes this year to make the campaign more successful including discussions at community clinics, mostly in remote villages and short messages sent to mobile phones. Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) Health, Nutrition and Population Programme Coordinator Dr. Raisul Haque told media that the week is observed to help carry out campaigns that ensure exclusive and early initiation of breastfeeding.

The Bangladesh Civil Society Alliance for SUN (CSA for SUN) organised an event on 20 August 2014, as a continuation of the series of programmes that took place during the beginning of the month. The ceremony included attendence by Minister of Cultural Affairs, Honorable Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, civil society groups and the UN system. A film created with REACH, which highlights the complex underlying causes of malnutrition was also shown at the event.
