From 18 to 20 July 2016, the NEPAD Agency, Southern African Development Community (SADC) and UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) co-organised, in Johannesburg, South Africa, a three-day workshop on Boosting Food and Nutrition Security Knowledge Sharing in SADC.

The aim of the workshop was for food and nutrition security stakeholders to agree to harmonize actions towards ending hunger and malnutrition in the SADC region in the next 10 years by setting up a knowledge sharing platform. Participants included high-level representatives from 12 SADC countries, the African Union Commission, African Ministries of Health and Agriculture, UN Agencies, USAID, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Scaling Up Nutrition Movement (SUN), and Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers (CGIAR), among others.

The NEPAD and SADC-led platform aims to capture, synthesise and disseminate relevant information on food and nutrition security, as well as the exchange of knowledge and expertise on different policies, programs, coordination mechanisms and investments in food and nutrition security within SADC. It will foster regional coordination and accountability in the tracking and monitoring of African commitments, including the Malabo Declaration on Nutrition Security for Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development.
