Cote d’Ivoire launches a national nutrition social and behaviour change communication strategy

In November 2015, Cote d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Health and AIDS Control launched a national nutrition social and behavior change communication (SBCC) strategy through the Coordinating Director of the National Nutrition Program. It was developed in collaboration with the National Program for Care and Treatment of people living with HIV and with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance Project (FANTA).

The new strategy titled, “Strategie Nationale de Communication pour le Changement des Normes Sociales et des Comportements (CCNSSC) pour la Promotion de Pratiques Optimales de Nutrition en Côte d’Ivoire”, aims to harmonise efforts by governmental and non-governmental institutions working to promote good nutrition in Cote d’Ivoire.

The strategy will help to ensure coordination of SBCC in nutrition programming and harmonisation of key nutrition messages to be used by implementing partners.  The strategy is targeted at all actors involved in improving the nutritional status of the population, especially vulnerable children, women of reproductive age, lactating and pregnant women and people living with HIV.

The strategy also highlights that it has been developed in line with national plans for scaling up nutrition and build on the momentum following Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to join the SUN Movement and the establishment of a National Nutrition Council.
