In October 2014, the SUN Civil Society Alliance for Zambia (CSO-SUN) launched a 6 minute documentary “When children have children”, to raise awareness for the consequences of teenage pregnancies and its impact on the nutrition of children. The documentary was made with the support of DFID, CARE and Irish Aid and is being used as a sensitization tool on nutrition from the aspect of Sexual and Reproductive Health.

The documentary brings to light the damaging consequences of Malnutrition seen through the eyes of a teenage mother from Samfya District in Luapala Provine, and her two malnourished twins. It aired on the Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation (ZNBC) on October 16th 2014, at prime time and re-televised on 24th October 2014, at a moment when Zambia was marking 50 years of independence.

At the Nutrition Forum held on 23rd December 2014, Chief Mwansakombe of Samfya District made a speech and expressed his appreciation over its airing and highlighting that it drew national attention to the problem being faced by those in Samfya. The traditional leader remarked that the documentary is a strong tool for raising awareness and it has also given encouragement to the people of Samfya to strengthen their efforts knowing that the nation is supporting them.
