From 9 – 11 September 2015, a three day global summit on food fortification was co-hosted by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) with the Government of Tanzania in Arusha. The summit aimed to accelerate global efforts to reinvigorate interest, awareness and investment in food fortification interventions as a public health measure to address vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Other co-conveners include the African Union, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, USAID, WFP, WHO and several NGOs.
The Summit brought together experts from across a range of disciplines and include governments, academics, technical supporters, donors and beneficiaries. Delivering the keynote address, the King of Lesotho and African Union Nutrition Champion, His Majesty King Letsie lll expressed his delight to the conveners of the summit for putting food fortification back on the global development agenda.
