Arusha FlyerFrom the 25th – 29th May 2015, the Federation of African Nutrition Sciences (FANUS) held the third FANUS Conference in Arusha, Tanzania. The conference was focused on whether Africa has achieved the Millenium Development Goals and to set goals for the future.  The Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) and Food and Nutrition Association of Tanzania (FONATA) hosted the event. FONATA is a live Adhering Body of FANUS and International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS).

Participants at the conference discussed whether Africa had achieved the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and which goals are needed forfuture nutrition development in Africa. The scientific programme covered research findings on all aspects of food and nutrition and include the following themes;

  • Nutrition in Africa – changing patterns and causalities
  • Nutrition as a human right or as an investment case
  • Nutrition governance and accountability – who is responsible?
  • Breast-feeding and complementary feeding – why is the obvious so difficult?
  • Maternal Nutrition – the neglected factor!
  • Obesity and NCDs in Africa – Time to Act!
  • Nutrition training and education – are we providing the right skill-set?
