E-LearningIn mid-2015, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) released new E-Learning modules to assist professionals who are involved in designing and implementing nutrition-sensitive programmes, investments and policies. The modules can be found on the FAO E-Learning center and are designed for individuals who work in a variety of sectors, for example agriculture, livestock, fisheries, health, rural development, education and social protection. The FAO E-Learning Centre which has been established to meet the needs of agriculture and food security professionals.

The aims of the modules available under the “Nutrition” category of the FAO E-Learning platform seek to build knowledge about:

  • Basic concepts of Nutrition, Food security and Livelihoods
  • How to facilitate joint planning for nutrition across sectors
  • What methodologies and indicators you can use for nutrition assessment
  • How to improve availability, quality and use of food composition data

Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods: Basic concepts

35 minute module

This module addresses the basic terms and concepts relating to food and nutrition, malnutrition, food security and livelihoods. By the end of this module, you will be able to define and differentiate these key concepts and understand the different situations that they encompass.

This module is available in English. The French and Spanish versions will be available in November 2015.

Agreeing on causes of malnutrition for joint action

1.5 hour module

This interactive course is a self-training tool. It guides you through the simulation of a workshop process in the fictional country of Namambar. You will learn how to use a methodology based on malnutrition problem-and-solution trees to support joint planning for combating food insecurity and malnutrition. Through this course, you will also improve your understanding of the multisectoral causes of malnutrition, and gain new facilitation skills for successful participatory workshops.

The module is available in English and French. The Spanish version will be available in November 2015
