From 5 to 7 November 2015, Pakistan’s “Food and Nutrition Week – 2015” was recognised with two major events taking place in Lahore, Pakistan. The “International Conference & Expo-2015 (INCE-2015)” was organised by the Nutritionists Association of Pakistan in collaboration with the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and a “Food and Nutritional Security in Pakistan (ICFANS)” was organised by Forman Christian College. International and national researchers, scientists, and representatives from multiple stakeholder groups attended the events.

The following four themes were covered at the INCE-2015:

  • Theme 1. Assessment of Global Food and Nutritional Insecurity
  • Theme 2. Activities of Major Food and Nutrition Organizations in Pakistan
  • Theme 3. Role of Biotechnology in Improving the Status of Nutritional Insecurity
  • Theme 4. Policies for Enhancing Food Security in Pakistan

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan attended the ICFANS event and called for research based agriculture as well as adoption of modern technologies to boost production. He said that food security was vitally linked to increased agricultural productivity, affordability for people and accessibility to all. He shared that the country was going through internal and external threats of tremendous magnitude, and that national security cannot be achieved without providing food security which in turn is impossible without nutritional security.
