Guatemala’s Zero Hunger Plan Receives Funding Boost

The Zero Hunger Plan being implemented in Guatemala is a bold, multi-sectoral strategy aiming to reduce chronic malnutrition in children by 10% by the end of 2015. A system for evaluating the impact of the plan’s 138 interventions is being put in place. Mobile phones and new digital technologies are being used to help gather information on 58 indicators.

The Zero Hunger Plan being implemented in Guatemala is a bold, multi-sectoral strategy aiming to reduce chronic malnutrition in children by 10% by the end of 2015. A system for evaluating the impact of the plan’s 138 interventions is being put in place. Mobile phones and new digital technologies are being used to help gather information on 58 indicators. Assessments will be made annually from 2012 to 2015 to demonstrate changes in the levels of malnutrition; anemia; provision and coverage of basic health services for children under five years of age and women of childbearing age; availability and access to nutritious foods; and household food security.
