WBW 2016#On 7 August 2016, Haiti’s First Lady, Dr Ginette Michaud Privert, called for fathers’ support for breastfeeding at the World Breastfeeding Week launch event held in Nippes. World Breastfeeding Week in Haiti consisted of a series of activities in all ten departments of the country, aiming to educate mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding for babies’ health.

“Breast milk is not only good for children, but it also allows parents to save money,” Haiti’s First Lady, Dr Ginette Michaud Privert.

The Minister of Public Health the Population, Dr Daphne Benoit Delsoin stressed the links between breastfeeding and malnutrition, urging mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies until they are six months old, also in a bid to prevent diseases. At the event, plaques of honour were handed out to the First Lady, the Minister of Health and UNICEF’s Haiti Representative, Marc Vincent, for their commitment, support and involvement in the promotion of breastfeeding in the country.
