High level officials unite for nutrition during visit from SUN Movement Coordinator in Bangladesh
On 2 April 2017, Gerda Verburg, SUN Movement Coordinator and UN Assistant Secretary-General, met with high level officials in Bangladesh to discuss how the country is working towards achieving the sustainable development goals and better nutrition for all. The three-day visit included meetings with the Hon. Prime Minister, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, Ms. Begum Matia Chowdhury, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mohamed Qamrul Islam, Minister of Food, Mr. Mohammed Nasim, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Mr. A H M Mustafa Kamal, Minister of Planning. The visit coincided with the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly.

A key event during the visit was the SUN Multi-Stakeholder Platform (MSP) Meeting on 3 April, where Hon. Minister Mohammed Nasim, during a speech as chief guest, said that Bangladesh had made tremendous improvement in health sector that made it a role model in the world.

This visit formed part of Ms. Verburg’s sub-regional mission to countries in South Asia throughout March and April 2017 across SUN Countries Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. The visits coincided with the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly, where she was a key speaker.
