From February 8 to 10 2016, the first International Summit on Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event was co-hosted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health, and the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative.

The summit brought together the global community of professionals, researchers and organizations to exchange knowledge and elevate the science and art of SBCC. Field practitioners gave talks, exhibited in a market fair of tools, methodologies, programs and research and participated in skills-building workshops and plenary sessions. The fourth day of the event featured field trips with various ministries of the Ethiopian government.

A skills building working was held on day one titled “How to leverage a Community Video Approach for Health, Nutrition and Agriculture” presented jointly by SPRING and the Digital Green Foundation.

Health Communication Capacity Collaborative

The Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) is a five-year, global project funded by USAID. It is designed to strengthen
developing country capacity to implement state-of-the-art social and behavior change communication (SBCC) programs. The project also offers expertise in social and behavior change for gender equity, environment and democracy and governance.

HC3’s goal is to foster vibrant communities of practice at the national, regional and global level that support improved evidence-based programming and continued innovation. In addition, the project’s specialized area of technical expertise uniquely positions it to complement, support or enhance SBCC projects already underway.
