Journalists scaling up nutrition in Chad

November 4, 2022 - Last update: February 10, 2023

Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Countries recognize the extremely powerful role the media plays in raising awareness of the importance of good nutrition and its benefits while also advocating for the right policies and governance structures to keep healthy diets high on the political agenda.

That is why in September 2022, the SUN Media Network in Chad organized a training for journalists and radio producers to build their capacities in formulating and disseminating nutrition-focused messages.

The training, delivered by the national Chadian Journalists Network for Nutrition, is part of the World Food Programme (WFP) FORMAT-NUT project, funded by the European Union. This Chadian network is also a member of the multi-stakeholder platforms for nutrition led by the SUN Focal Point.

In addition to capacity-building, one goal of the partnership with WFP is to ensure community awareness through radio and television programmes, conference debates, public-facing activities, documentaries, awareness programmes and more.

Through this work, participating journalists took concrete steps towards communications activities aimed at changing social behaviour in local communities.

At the end of the training, Chadian journalists were able to produce several publications related to various nutritional themes, including exclusive breastfeeding and infant and young child feeding.
