9 APRIL 2014: At a two-day consultative stakeholders forum in Lilongwe, the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries have agreed to promote small holder farmers in order for the region to boost its agriculture base production. Opening the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Binton Kutsaira said that the agricultural sector plays a vital role in the social and economic development of most countries in the region. The minister emphasized the importance of the meeting which will help to formulate strategies to promote small holder farmers particularly the youth and women.
