On the 14 May 2014, civil society, government, academia, and the donor community held a high level debate at the medical school of Eduardo Mondlane University to launch Mozambique’s global day of action. 100 participants listened to and participated in discussions around the theme of nutrition ranging from consideration of the difference between food security and nutrition as well as the role of legislation. The civil society alliance made several recommendations including suggesting that nutrition form part of mining companies social responsibility activities in Mozambique. They also committed to enabling nutrition programmes in an inclusive and culturally appropriate manner enabling empowerment not dependency.
