National Forum on Nutrition and Food Security a milestone for Kyrgyzstan

On 20 June 2016, the Multi-stakeholder Platform on Food Security and Nutrition was formalised at the National Forum on Nutrition and Food Security. The Kyrgyz government, with support from UNICEF Kyrgyzstan, brought together representatives from academia, civil society, international organisation and business to improve coordination in the field of nutrition and food security, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

Elmira Kabylova, a representative of the National Center of Maternity and Childhood Welfare shared the nutrition situation in Kyrgryzstan, highlighting that more than 700 children a year could be saved if they did not have anemia or stunting. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health Care, 12.9 percent of children under 5 are stunted and 43 percent of children and 35 percent of women of childbearing age suffer from anemia.
