cop-paris-perspective-croppedFrom 30 November 2015 – 11 December 2015, the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11) was held in Paris, France. From the event, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) were able reached an important milestone with the Paris Climate Agreement.

On 2 December 2015, Action Contre le Faim (ACF) held a side event titled “Climate and Nutrition: A double win for sustainable development“. The key messages were that nutrition should be central to both food security and climate change programming and that these must be pursued in an integrated way.

On 5 December 2015, the Global panel on Agriculture Food Systems and Nutrition held the side event “The Climate-Smart Food Systems for Enhanced Nutrition” which was chaired by Global Panel Director Professor Sandy Thomas, and was attended by Rhoda Peace Tumusiime, Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, African Union Commission, and Global Panel member. At the event, Rachel Kyte, Vice President and Special Envoy for Climate Change, World Bank, and member of the Global Panel, shared that it was essential for the nutrition community to prioritise the linkage between climate change and nutrition and to further the conversation.

On 7 December 2015, the International Union of Nutritional Sciences Working group on Climate Change, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the United Nations Standing Committee on Nutrition and the World Health Organisation, organised a side event on “Sustainable Food Systems and Health“.
