From 15 to 19 September 2015, the 45th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of Nutrition Society of Nigeria took place in Lagos, Nigeria. The event was titled ‘Nutrition Outlook-Beyond 2015 MDGs,’ and brought the nutrition community together to brainstorm on exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding practices and discover the way forward on how Nigeria can be on the right track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants also discussed how they would engage and mobilise governments and others to advocate for relevant policy implementation. The Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) also attended the event and stressed the need to transform Nigeria so that it becomes a country where food and nutrition is secured for all citizens.

“It is a fact that nutrition is the driver of development. Countries that have their citizens in a state of adequate nutrition are more likely to develop better than countries with malnutrition ranging over the populace and we are moving towards ensuring that malnutrition is tackled. We also want to ensure that Nigerian children, who are the future leaders are in a state of adequate nutrition so they can contribute to the development of the nation even as we partner with the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) to improve the nutritional status in Nigeria.” – Professor Nnam Ngozi, President of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria
