SPRING EVENT 2

On 28 July 2016, SPRING and USAID held a global dissemination event, at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C., to share the results of SPRING’s Pathways to Better Nutrition (PBN) Case Studies.

The event brought together program planners, implementers, and researchers to debate on multi-sectoral nutrition planning, governance, financing, and on how stakeholders can use this type of research to advocate within ministries, donor and UN agencies, and the private sector for better nutrition policies and funding.

SPRING’s PBN case studies provide new evidence of the importance of good nutrition to both human and economic development and the critical role good governance and policy play in creating momentum for nutrition. The case studies explore how nutrition-related activities are prioritized and funded in Nepal and Uganda by stakeholders across multiple sectors. The study findings identify concrete drivers of change (barriers and enablers) in the prioritization of nutrition and its funding.

After more than two years of data collection in Nepal and Uganda, SPRING found that in these two countries their national nutrition action plans have positively influenced priority and financing for nutrition. The case studies show the importance of building sustainable structures and systems for nutrition, strengthening human resources for nutrition, aligning donor efforts with national nutrition plans, as well as coordination, advocacy, and adequate funding.
