On 17 November 2015, the Ministries of Social Development of Peru and Ecuador launched a joint communication campaign for healthy nutritional practices at the International Bridge connecting the border towns of Piura district of Peru and Macara, in the Ecuadorian canton.

The communication campaign will disseminate useful messages to the population to promote handwashing, micronutrient supplementation and complementary feeding for children under five in the border towns. The two countries are undertaking inter-agency efforts and coordinating the work of all local, regional and national stakeholders with the aim of reducing child malnutrition. This joint campaign is one output of the Commitment Act between Peru and Ecuador which was signed in 2012 focused on addressing child malnutrition and seasonal hunger in both countries.
