25499890392_b6a7889137_bOn 8 March 2016 El Salvador commemorated International Women’s Day with a ceremony where President Salvador Sánchez Cerén, President of the Supreme Justice Court, Óscar Armando Pineda, and President of the Legislative Chamber, Lorena Peña, came together to sign an Gender Equality Pact.

The Gender Equality Pact recognises the significant progress in fulfilling the rights of Salvadoran women and calls to intensify efforts towards women’s inclusion and equality.

The Pact contains the 10 priority areas of economic autonomy, free from violence, health, culture and education, environment and risk management, political and civic participation of women, land management for equality, budget, democratization and good governance, and the role of women in peace building and development.
