Office of the Somali Prime on Sunday the 30th of December 2018 held consultations on integrating primary curriculum for the private  education providers stakeholders in Mogadishu.

Nearly 50 Participants from key educational level institutions in Mogadishu and scholars attended the one day consultative discussion on the importance of nutrition in the curriculum for our primary schools.

The Participants stated there has been challenge on having a unified curriculum in Somalia in both primary and secondary educational system since the former government collapsed in 1991. currently plethora of curricula exist drawn from, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Turkey and some international ones.

However, recently Somalia’s Ministry of Education has prepared the curriculum of the primary schools now and the lower primary one is operational.

“Nutrition is very important for every person because eating balanced diet is vital for the good health and to improve the nutritional status, It needs multi-sectoral collaborations”, Khadar Hassan Aden, a School teacher said during the discussion.

He said Ministries of Education, Health, Livestock and Agriculture should take a leading role in making and adding nutrition into the subjects provided in schools. “This is a very useful consultation and I benefited the discussions expressed here today”, another participant, Habibo Mohamud Khalif said.

Office of the Prime Minister continues efforts to champion nutrition and has set Scaling Up Nutrition as an agenda for 2019-2020 and its milestones are captured in the social sector roadmap.
