The Uganda Civil Society Coalition on Scaling up Nutrition (UCCO-SUN) platform worked with a number of partners to commemorate the World Breastfeeding Week. The theme for Tanzania’s breastfeeding week was: “Enhancing community support for optimal breast feeding for health well nourished and HIV free generation”.

UCCO-SUN conducted a media event to create awareness amongst media houses on 31 July 2013, a policy dialogue with parliamentarians on 1 August and a public symposium at Kyambogo University aimed at engaging various stakeholders to support and promote breastfeeding on 2nd August.  At the regional level, UCCO-SUN facilitated a discussion in Mbarara district on 6 August  to stimulate and engage local media personnel and also coordinated community engagement awareness activities on the benefits of nutrition in Lira and Tororo districts.

On 9 August, UCCO-SUN joined the Ministry of Health in the commemoration of the World Breastfeeding Week and the launch of the Partnership for the HIV Free Survival (PHFS) in Namutumba district . More details on these activities are available on the UCCO-SUN website.
