Between the 9 and 14 June 2014, a number of events were held in Senegal, as part of capacity building project and focused on strengthening integrated nutrition programs. The events were led by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) in collaboration with a number of partner organisations from the UN system and civil society – including WVI, ACF, IMC, IFRC, ICRC, UNICEF, WFP, GNC and FSC

Together, participants worked towards turning initiatives into integrated approaches in the field by creating a critical mass of technical expertise. This expertise would effectively support the integration of nutrition and food security programs on the ground in West Africa and the Sahel.

Events included a Regional Training Workshop and “Training of Trainers” sessions.

  • The workshop entitled “Integrating nutrition and food security programming for emergency response and for resilience building” brought together more than 60 professionals working for the four target countries – Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad and in regional offices.
  • The “Training of Trainers” sessions helped to develop a pool of trainers at national and regional levels who are capable of supporting humanitarian actors and clusters on the integration of food security and nutrition. Trainers would facilitate workshops at regional and country level. Similar events for the Horn in Africa were also organised in Nairobi earlier this year.
