SUN Movement 3.0 Evaluation Report released
The newly released Evaluation Report of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement's third phase (SUN 3.0) found that SUN 3.0 has significantly advanced global nutrition efforts, particularly in strengthening country ownership and fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration. The evaluation highlights notable achievements in several countries, showcasing the Movement’s success in empowering governments and strengthening nutrition governance from 2021 to 2024.
Findings
Some of the notable country successes which emerge from the evaluation include (but are not limited to):
- Timor-Leste’s integration of nutrition governance into the Prime Minister’s Office, ensuring better coordination and policy alignment.
- Côte d’Ivoire has successfully transitioned its Regional Centre of Excellence for the Fight Against Hunger and Malnutrition into a nationally owned initiative, allowing for shared learning across countries.
- Pakistan has established national and provincial nutrition governance councils to drive progress on nutrition goals.
- Mali has made nutrition a constitutional priority, incorporating the right to food into its legal framework.
Process of the evaluation
To ensure a thorough assessment, the independent evaluation, conducted by the Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI), included over 160 interviews and focus group discussions, an e-survey with responses from 55 countries, and in depth case studies from six SUN countries. Workshops were also held with the five SUN Movement Secretariat Regional Hubs, and feedback was gathered from all SUN constituencies, including civil society, the private sector, donors and UN agencies.
Looking ahead
The evaluation offers valuable insights for SUN’s future, providing recommendations to improve governance, financing, and technical support, particularly for fragile and conflict-affected states. These findings will inform the development of SUN 4.0, ensuring the Movement continues to evolve and meet global nutrition challenges.
We invite all stakeholders to read the full report and contribute to shaping the next phase of the SUN Movement.
