The Scaling-Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement has established a partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) e-learning Academy, with the objectives to implement concrete collaboration initiatives to leverage comparative advantages, capitalize on existing resources and institutional expertise, and multiply the outreach and impact of both organizations’ capacity development efforts related to Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems.

Within the context of the partnership with SUN, the FAO e-learning Academy offers SUN members and affiliated institutions over 350 multilingual elearning courses, free of charge, as a global public good accessible at: https://elearning.fao.org.

The overall objective of the FAO elearning Academy is to strengthen the human capital, through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and competences, in order to generate competent professionals able to face the global challenges.

The FAO e-learning Academy is the result of a collaborative effort, which involves over 200 partners throughout the world and has now reached a global audience of more than 600,000 learners.

The priority areas covered in the FAO elearning courses are: nutrition and sustainable food systems, climate smart agriculture, food safety, food losses, gender empowerment, responsible governance to tenure among others, and are all fully aligned with the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

In addition to universities, academic and research institutions, the FAO elearning Academy shares elearning courses with other organizations, including UN agencies, the European Union, International Federation of the Red Cross,  NGOs, and international development agencies (ECOWAS, CILSS, COMESA, NEPAD etc…) to support capacity development efforts worldwide.

The FAO e-learning Academy has also created, in collaboration with universities and academic networks, a number of joint University Masters’ and Post Graduate Degree programmes, based on the FAO e-learning courses.

The FAO elearning Academy is the official certifying body of FAO, as it is adopting the Digital Badges Certification System, to certify the acquisition of competencies, in order to progress talents within organizations and increase employment opportunities. Certification granted by FAO, by passing the final scenario-based performance evaluation, is now associated to the FAO e-learning courses.
