The eleventh session of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Open Working Group (OWG) was held 5 – 9 May 2014 at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA.

In June 2012, governments agreed to launch a process to develop a set of SDGs which led to the establishment of the OWG. The OWG is composed of 30 representatives nominated by UN Member States. The role of the OWG is to propose a set of SDGs to the UN General Assembly.

Since its formation, the OWG has held eleven sessions and developed focus areas for the SDGs. The latest “working document”, finalized on 18 April contained 16 focus areas and approximately 150 targets. Focus area 2 concerns sustainable agriculture, food security and nutrition.
