MastersFrom 11 to 12 December 2015, a workshop was held at the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry with over 50 participants from academia, United Nations agencies, and civil society organisation. The workshop was organised by UNICEF Guinea together with the University’s Department of Biology to revise the training curriculum of the Masters in Nutrition.

The workshop was organised into four sessions:

  3. Expectations of a nutrition master programme
  4. Nutrition programmes of United Nations agencies and civil society groups in Guinea

During session 1, Dr Mohamed Ayoya, Representative of UNICEF shared information about the nutrition situation in Guinea, including the prevalence of chronic malnutrition effecting 25% of Guinean children. He mentioned insights from Dr Mamadi Daffé, Head of the Food and Nutrition Division in the Ministry of Health and SUN Government Focal Point, that nutrition requires strategic thinking and implementation across a number of sectors in order to reach more than half of the population who suffer from micronutrient deficiencies.

Also in attendance was Dr Mahamat Béchir, REACH facilitator, discussed the findings from Global research on nutrition training models in the world and in Africa. He shared the different types of training, characteristics, costs and programs that are featured in curriculums around the region.
