From 1 – 7 August 2015, the 2015 World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated by members of the United Nations Network for SUN. Resources and information provided by United Nations (UN) agencies were shared widely across the SUN Movement during the week.
This included a message from Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organisation and Anthony Lake, Executive Director of UNICEF and Chair of the SUN Movement Lead Group. In the message, the World Health Assembly global targets were highlighted and a call for action by governments was made. They called for governments to lead the charge by making breastfeeding a policy priority in national development plans, increasing resources for programming and working with communities to promote the benefits.
New infographics were developed by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the International Labour Organization about the roles of different stakeholder groups in support of breastfeeding and work.
