High-level Guatemalan Government leaders, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, and representatives from the UN and civil society organizations came together at the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting to announce a new partnership seeking to advance Guatemala’s progress in Scaling Up Nutrition.

In his address, President Clinton said, “This group is partnering to ensure that young Guatemalans receive adequate nourishment during the critical window of early child development. The program will operate on a national scale and will include breastfeeding promotion and support, micronutrient supplements and treatment of moderate malnutrition in children between 6 and 23 months of age. The Guatemalan Government’s ability to ensure leadership and cooperation, paired with the World Food Program’s expertise and technical assistance creates the kind of partnership that will enable this commitment to have a real impact on chronic child malnutrition.”
