The SUN Movement welcomes the three new SUN Country Focal Points on board of the SUN Movement Executive Committee: Dr. Cecilia Gamboa from Costa Rica; Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang from the Philippines; and Dr. Kiran Rupakethee from Nepal. The participation of SUN country voices in the Executive Committee is absolutely essential for a Movement that is country-led and country-driven. The three new members will fill the seats for Asian, Pacific, Latin American and Caribbean Focal Points and are appointed for a minimum term of two years. Brief introduction to the new Executive Committee members:

Dr. Cecilia Gamboa

Dr. Cecilia Gamboa from Costa Rica currently works at the Ministry of Health, at the department of Strategic Planning, Evaluation and Health Policies as Coordinator of the Secretariat of National Policy for Food and Nutrition. She has inherent experience with the elimination of all forms of malnutrition through policy measures and a food systems approach. Currently she is also a member of the national commission on Non-Communicable Diseases and the National Commission on Nutrients in Costa Rica.

Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang

Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang is the Executive Director of the National Nutrition Council at the Ministry of Health of the Philippines. She has over 25 years of experience in programs on Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases. As she started her career at the local district of Davao del Sur and is now working at the highest national level on nutrition, she has experience at all government levels to implement a wide range of nutrition related policies.

Dr. Kiran Rupakethee

Dr. Kiran Rupakethee from Nepal is currently working as the Joint Secretary/Division Chief of Good Governance and Social Development Division at the National Planning. He brings a broad skill set on a range of topics including Nutrition, Social Protection, Child Rights Promotion and Protection, Good Governance and Gender. With over 25 years of experience, he is well equipped to mainstream these topics in strategic national nutrition policies and plans.

They will all hit the ground running in the middle of the discussion on the Strategic Review of the SUN Movement. The Executive Committee of the SUN Movement is a key part of the stewardship arrangements and comprises all stakeholder groups of the SUN Movement (Civil Society, Private Sector, Donors and UN as well as SUN Country Focal Points). On behalf of the Lead Group they oversee the general development and implementation of the SUN Movement Strategy and will develop recommendations for the next phase of the SUN Movement for approval by the Lead Group.
