On 13th May 2015, William Chilufya, Coordinator of the Zambia Civil Society Alliance called for an effective nutrition funding mechanism in an interview with the Post Zambia. He said that addressing the problem of malnutrition will help to guarantee a better future for Zambia’s children. He highlighted that nutrition interventions programmes are poorly funded in Zambia, according to research conducted by the Government of Zambia and the World Bank, estimates of $48 million is needed annually to scale up nutrition. He said, “the current government budget for nutrition specific and sensitive is only $3.2 million with an estimated donor support of $14.4 million.. It is important to make a fundamental shift in the way we view malnutrition in order to find an effective nutrition funding mechanism. Malnutrition must be viewed as everyone’s business and responsibility. We must always think investing in nutrition is as good as investing in the future of Zambia”.
