On 19 December 2016, the UN Network for SUN and the SUN Movement Secretariat launched a checklist for good national nutrition plans, the first of its kind. There is strong consensus that harmonised support to national processes is a prerequisite for sustainable development. However, no standards or guidance has been made available to define what constitutes quality nutrition plans, which has led to the development of this Checklist.

Cambodian Prime Minister recognises crucial sanitation and hygiene links with nutrition on National Nutrition Day

On 3 November 2016, the third National Nutrition Day was celebrated in Cambodia with a workshop under the theme ” Improved Hygiene and Nutrition make Children Grow From Evidence to Impact”. The workshop was jointly organised by the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) through the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) along with the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Health, in partnership with USAID, UNICEF, FAO, WFP, GIZ and the Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance in Cambodia (SUN CSA Cambodia) coordinated by Helen Keller International (HKI), with support from Save the Children, Plan International, Action Against Hunger, Samaritan’s Purse, Medical Teams International, Malteser International, GSF and WSSCC.

Myanmar: Civil Society Organisations come together to tackle malnutrition

While Myanmar has been developing rapidly over the last few decades, the rates of child malnutrition continue to be worryingly high. UNICEF data and the results of the newly released 2015-16 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) show that the prevalence of stunting at the national level decreased from 41% in 2003 to 29% in 2015.

Malawi’s Minister of Health supports a local business to launch a new complementary food product

On 18 November 2016, VALID Nutition, a member of the SUN Business Network, launched a new Ready-to-Use Complementary Food (RUCF) in Lilongwe, Malawi. The product was formally launched by Dr. Peter Kumpalume, MP and Minister for Health, Malawi. The RUCF, also known as Small Quantity Lipid-based Nutrient Supplement (LNS-SQ), is approved by the Malawi Bureau of Standards and conforms fully to UNICEF specifications and standards for LNS-SQ (S0000245 Fortified spread, sachet 20g/CAR-546).
