Operationalization of Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Commitments

Under the leadership of the SUN Movement Secretariat, cabinet divisions helped operationalize 12 N4G commitments through advocacy with policymakers and partners responsible for their implementation.

Progress towards SUN 3.0 Strategic Objectives (SO)

SO.1

The SUN Donor Network has continued to strengthen the Government's multisectoral nutrition approach to align with key nutrition policies, priorities and commitments. The SUN Business Network has continued to contribute to raising consumer awareness, demand healthy and nutritious food, and advocate for increased private sector investment in nutrition. The strategy aims to establish a nutrition-sensitive business ecosystem that complements the Second National Plan of Action for Nutrition (NPAN2) by incentivizing investments in nutrition-sensitive agriculture.

SO.2

All stakeholders have actively participated in i) designing and undertaking three SUN Country priorities for 2022 (recruiting 64 district nutrition officers, developing
multisectoral urban nutrition strategies, and preparing the operationalization guideline for N4G commitments, etc.); ii) developing a Global Action Plan (GAP) strategy to address wasting comprehensively through a systems016354 approach; iii) developing a United Nations Food Systems Summit pathway document and dashboard; and iv) developing a country investment plan that will guide and track the progress of regional, local and sectoral investment plans and programmes, in line with national plans and policy.

SO.3

The Government of Bangladesh has created 64 district nutrition officer positions to support the subnational planning, monitoring, reporting and implementation of nutrition services. The SUN Civil Society Network supported the capacity-strengthening of nutrition leaders at national and regional levels via a collaboration with the Right2Grow project consortium. This collective, collaborative and coordinated effort focuses on reducing child undernutrition, and partnerships with UNICEF, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Finance, with supporting capacity development of key ministries, have enabled the establishment of a Multisectoral Financial Tracking System to ensure the effective planning, allocation and execution of resources for nutrition programmes.

SO.4

The SUN Donor Network has perceived that more resource allocation for nutrition-specific interventions is required to reach the set nutrition priorities. The SUN Business Network has taken concrete steps to strengthen the multisectoral approach and has continued to work to align with relevant ministries and departments. The SUN Business and Civil Society Networks have established a collaborative partnership aimed at synergizing efforts and mobilizing resources towards common objectives. A business case will be developed for increasing public investment in nutrition and aligning resources from all stakeholders in the nutrition sector to ensure accountability.
