SUN Movement at the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA77)
April 29, 2024 - Last update: May 27, 2024Background
The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the decision-making body of WHO. It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board.
Nutrition at WHA77
From 27 May to 1 June 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) will host the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA). Given the current context of increasing malnutrition and food insecurity, it is critical to integrate essential nutrition actions into health systems as a foundational component of Universal Health Coverage and scale up multi-sectoral nutrition sensitive approaches in agriculture/ food systems, social protection, water and sanitation, and education. Nutrition is central to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and must be incorporated into every policy, budgetary, financing, and development consideration. WHA77 offers an important moment for SUN countries to advocate for nutrition and contribute valuable insights to incorporate nutrition into the health agenda.
