The 75th World Health Assembly endorsed recommendations for the prevention and management of obesity over the life course and targets and the Acceleration plan to STOP Obesity which clarifies how the World Health Organization (WHO) will support Member States in implementing these recommendations based on individual country needs and priorities, including reporting mechanisms. One year later the endorsement at WHA75, the Acceleration Plan is now mature to move towards its execution phase, focused on supporting frontrunner countries in the scale up of their chosen priorities.

On the occasion of the 76th World Health Assembly, the Government of Bahrein, in collaboration with the WHO, will be convening the side event: The WHO Acceleration Plan to STOP Obesity: from endorsement at WHA 75 to execution in frontrunner countries on 23 May from 18:00 to 20:00.
