From November 24 to December 5, 2014, the United for Nutrition Alliance (TUN) in Niger arranged a series of nutrition advocacy workshops in three regions – Maradi, Zinder and Diffa. The workshops were also used as an opportunity to establish three regional branches of the Alliance.

In each region, the 3 day long workshops brought together Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working in the field of nutrition, technical experts and local authorities to strengthen their capacity for carrying out effective advocacy in the regions.

The workshops provided an overview of efforts to scale up nutrition in Niger, a chance to learn about effective advocacy and paved the way for the establishment of regional offices through elections and the development of regional action plans.

The TUN Alliance aims to use its collective strength to help secure increased funding for nutrition in the national budget, strengthen the coordination of CSO activities – ensuring a complimentary approach to improving nutrition and creating community development plans.

Organized in partnership and with financial support from Save the Children Niger, which funded the workshops of Maradi and Zinder, these sessions laid the groundwork for stronger collaboration amongst civil society actors.
