Europe funds nutrition project in Niger to boost local productivity

In July 2017, the World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed US$4.5 million of funding from the European Commission to increase the quality and availability of nutritious food in Niger.

The funding will go to WFP and French NGO GRET to support an increased local production of nutritious foods and identify ways for farming groups to better understand consumers.

Since 2011, WFP in Niger has been buying locally some of the food it distributes which has contributed to the improvement of production quantity and quality. GRET has expertise in supporting the production of fortified flour for infants. The new project builds on these initiatives’ success.
