Ghana Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Scaling Up Nutrition (GHACCSSUN) takes action on nutrition

On 1st August 2013, the Ghana Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Scaling up Nutrition held its official launch in Accra.
The coalition’s coordinator, Nana Ayim Poakwah, pledged the commitment of GHACCSSUN to mobilise the technical capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to complement government’s efforts in the development of a costed nutrition plan that would end the scourge of under-nutrition in Ghana. Just weeks later, GHACCSUN organized a workshop to equip journalists with knowledge and skills on nutrition reporting.

On 1st August 2013, the Ghana Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Scaling up Nutrition held it’s official launch in Accra.

The coalition’s coordinator, Nana Ayim Poakwah, pledged the commitment of GHACCSSUN to mobilise the technical capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to complement government’s efforts in the development of a costed nutrition plan that would end the scourge of under-nutrition in Ghana.

He said GHACCSSUN would work in collaboration with the Ghana Parliamentarians Against Hunger and Malnutrition Caucus to monitor and facilitate the process leading to the promulgation of an appropriate legislative framework for nutrition.

Just weeks later, GHACCSUN organized a workshop to equip journalists with knowledge and skills on nutrition reporting.

GHACCSUN has received support from the SUN MPTF to establish a civil society platform and ensure a basis for common messaging and national awareness raising campaign to support the SUN movement and the 1000 days campaign.  The overall aim of the MPTF funded work by GHACCSUN is to ensure that nutrition is recognized as both a health and a developmental issue through the adoption and implementation of a strong National Nutrition Policy supported through appropriate budgetary allocation by the government and other stakeholders.

On 5th September GHACCSSUN organized a workshop to equip journalists with knowledge and skills on nutrition reporting. The workshop, which was held in Accra, was also aimed at producing cadres of mass media personnel who would be sensitive to the challenges of nutrition and its multifaceted impact on Ghanaians. Dr. Edith Tetteh, Focal Person for National Scaling up Nutrition, Madam Wilhelmina Okwabi, Deputy Director and Head of the Nutrition Department at the Ghana Health Service and Mr Kwabena Appiah Pinkrah, Co-chairman of the Ghana Parliamentarians against Hunger and Malnutrition Caucus.
