On 22 September 2014, the National Planning Commission of Nepal held a two day workshop on the effective coordination and implementation the Multi-sectoral Nutrition Plan (MSNP) for districts. The event brought together over 100 officials from eight districts and multiple ministries in Kathmandu. The MSNP reflects the commitment of the government and all nutrition stakeholders to work together more effectively in a coordinated manner.

The workshop played a crucial role in allowing all stakeholders to share experiences and identify challenges for better and more effective implementation of the MSNP at all levels. Participants also explored the specific needs and support options for districts and village development committees etc. Mr. Sharada Prasad Trital, Member Secretary of the NPC opened the workshop and said “We have longer term multi-sector plan in place to alleviate under-nutrition and mal-nutrition. To further strengthen our efforts we have set up a multisector coordination architecture in order to ensure that the MSNP will not remain a plan only, but will become reality. High level coordination structures have been established, such as the ‘High Level Nutrition and Food Security Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Hon’ Vice-Chairman of NPC and the National Nutrition and Food Security Coordination Committee under the chairmanship of Hon. Member (Health and Nutrition Sector) of NPC”.
