“The State of Food Insecurity in the World” is launched for 2014

On 16 September 2014, the annual report “The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2014” (SOFI 2014) was launched in Rome, Italy. The report presents updated estimates of undernourishment and progress towards the millennium development goals (MDGs) and World Food Summit (WFS) hunger targets. It is jointly prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

The 2014 report examines the diverse experiences of Brazil and Bolivia and five SUN countries – Madagascar, Yemen, Haiti, Indonesia and Malawi. There is a specific focus on the enabling environment for food security and nutrition that reflects commitment and capacities across four dimensions: policies, programmes and legal frameworks; mobilization of human and financial resources; coordination mechanisms and partnerships; and evidence-based decision-making.
