The Scaling Up Nutrition Business Network (SBN), which is the world’s leading private sector initiative focused on nutrition, has launched a brand-new website. The launch signifies a new era for the SBN as it enters its second phase (SBN 2.0), with a renewed determination from its global and national members to improve health and reduce malnutrition.

The decision to re-design the website comes at a time of considerable growth in the network and increased interest from both SUN Countries and multinational companies wishing to engage with the SBN. Along with a fresh new look and feel, the new website offers a more intuitive and user-friendly experience and a greater focus on SBN activities at global and national level.

The new website is a key platform for the SBN to demonstrate to the world the progress being made in:

  • Advocating for more purposeful business engagement
  • Supporting the development of country led business networks for nutrition and
  • Facilitating partnerships and finance or business support providers to reinforce national efforts

500 companies are now members of the SBN and together they are increasing awareness and demand for nutritious food through actions such as, improved formulations, increased production, enhanced distribution channels and responsible marketing.

21 multi-national members are driving forward the global level discourse on business engagement, including Royal DSM, BASF and Ajinomoto, who each have a business leader appointed to the SBN Advisory Group. In total, the eight members of the SBN Advisory Group provide strategic advice to the network and are tasked with championing the role of the private sector in scaling up nutrition amongst the business community and the SUN Movement.

Spanning across the continents of Africa and Asia, 12 countries have established SBN country Networks, each with Coordinators who are mobilising local businesses to improve nutrition and build the business case for investment in nutrition. The new website showcases the efforts being made in each of these twelve countries and includes a mechanism to reach out to the SBN Country Coordinator. In addition, the website showcases content on the country network’s priorities and who is involved. For example, SBN Tanzania has 124 members ranging from small-scale milling to a national media outlet. A further 13 countries have emerging networks that are incubated by either the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the World Food Programme (WFP) or other organisations with sufficient capacity. The SBN invites companies and supporting organisations interested in engaging with the emerging networks or wishing to start a network in a country where one does not yet exist, to get in contact with the team via the website. The SBN has a busy year ahead and are looking forward to sharing more exciting content over the coming months.
