Progress towards SUN 3.0 Strategic Objectives (SO)

SO.1

A ministerial agreement has been formulated to establish the Advisory Council for the Prevention and Reduction of Chronic Child Malnutrition, which will have the purpose of reviewing and approving the mechanism for constituting and validating the Advisory Council’s governance model. The Advisory Council will act conclusively, in accordance with the guidelines set out in the regulations. The Educommunication Strategy has been developed to change the way in which chronic child malnutrition is tackled and a campaign has been implemented to raise awareness and encourage behaviour change among the population.

SO.2

The Children with a Future project has been implemented, with a series of territorial brigades deployed nationwide to capture the target population through home visits. The objectives of the Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Reduction of Chronic Child Malnutrition are aligned with the National Development Plan and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this regard, Ecuador’s work is bringing together the various activities being implemented to tackle chronic child malnutrition. Intersectoral work is therefore important to ensure that the goal set for 2025 is achieved.

SO.3

To improve the implementation of public policies aimed at reducing and preventing chronic child malnutrition, Ecuador has collaborated with Peru through the Peruvian Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion. In addition, workshops have been held on strategies to promote behaviour change and institutional authorities have been trained in the “scrum” method to improve the implementation outcomes of the Intersectoral Plan for the Reduction and Prevention of Chronic Child Malnutrition. Through international cooperation, officials who form part of the Intersectoral Strategy for Chronic Childhood Malnutrition have also received training.

SO.4

The national Government has issued an executive decree creating the Technical Secretariat of Ecuador Grows without Child Malnutrition. To ensure compliance with public policy, an Intersectoral Plan for Chronic Child Malnutrition has been developed. The Advisory Council has been created to learn about, observe and monitor the implementation and execution of the National Ecuador Grows without Child Malnutrition Strategy. Six sessions of the Inter-institutional Committee have been held with the participation of the President of the Republic. Cantonlevel technical round tables have been established as part of the territorial approach.
